Downtown Poughkeepsie
Street - Market St 4:56 PM
9/24/07 Weather - Sunny, 75 degrees
Shadows line the street. Not many people are walking around. Usually there are a lot of cars parked on this street, but it was easy to find a spot to park. Walking by Mad Hatter it looks very dark and empty. Its a much different scene now than on a Friday night. Now traffic is picking up. I hear beeps, sound of cars revving their engines, motorcycles growling. More and more people are getting out of buildings. I hear the sound of bass coming from a car’s sound system. It’s music to my ears
Now I begin to walk. People give me stares as I write this. A lot of women are leaving the County of Dutchess building, crossing the street to their cars. The garbage can beside me is 1/3 full. A female in scrubs stands out amongst the dresses and suits.
I take a right and enter Cannon Street. Its a little brighter on this street. Its leaving the buildings and entering parking lots and cross streets. I hear someone playing the song I’ve been listening to the most on my iTunes. More bass from an SUV. Everyone seems to be headed towards the same parking lot. The trees look funny amongst all the blacktop. I’m surprised that the air doesn’t smell more of smog. A man drinks a coffee as he briskly walks. It seems too late in the day for coffee. I see a BMW Z4 with the top down; I wish I was driving that right now. I have to move so a sedan can enter the bank parking lot and drop off a young female. A pregnant lady walks by me with sunglasses. Its much cooler out than it was at 2pm. I hear construction sounds, like a buzz saw going constantly. First time I see someone commuting on a bike. This street could use a good street sweeping, there is too much garbage and leaves. Two cars are having trouble entering and leaving a parking lot.
